Whether youā€™re fitting your blinds inside the jamb for a clean, built-in look, or outside the jamb due to shallow jambs but still ensuring maximum light block, weā€™ve got you covered. Measure in 3 steps

1. Measure width for perfect SmartBlock™ fit

With your trusty tape measure in hand, start by measuring the internal width of the window jamb where your SmartBlockā„¢ blind will be installed. For the most accurate result, measure the width in three places: at the top, across the middle, and near the bottom of the opening. Windows arenā€™t always perfectly square, and this simple step helps you catch any variations. Use the smallest of the three measurements ā€” this ensures your SmartBlockā„¢ system will fit neatly inside the frame for a flawless, sealed finish. Make sure the tape is held level, and measure from inside edge to inside edge (wood to wood). If you're measuring a wide window or door, nowā€™s a great time to call in a second pair of hands ā€” sweeten the deal with the promise of dinner if needed! Record the smallest width in millimetres. This is what weā€™ll use to custom-make your complete blackout blind for the perfect fit

2. Measuring the drop for your SmartBlock™ blind

Getting the drop (height) measurement right is just as important as the width ā€” especially when it comes to achieving a true blackout result with your SmartBlockā„¢ system. While we include a little extra fabric on the roll, an accurate drop ensures your blind fully seals the window from top to bottom, with no gaps for light to sneak in. Using a tape measure, measure from the top inside edge of the jamb to the bottom inside edge (wood to wood), holding the tape straight and perpendicular to the sill. Double-check your reading and note it down in millimetres. This precise measurement helps your SmartBlockā„¢ complete blackout blind do exactly what itā€™s designed for ā€” completely darken the room, eliminate light bleed, and deliver the comfort and privacy youā€™re after

3. Ready to get a quote?

If you're booking a check measure later, or just want a ballpark price before committing, feel free to enter approximate dimensions for now. Before any order can be finalised, weā€™ll need your exact measurements. Supplying accurate sizes ensures your custom blackout blinds are made to fit perfectly ā€” maximising light control, privacy, and insulation

Installing your SmartBlockā„¢ blackout blinds (Inside fit)

The inside and semi-inside fit installation is the most popular way to set up SmartBlockā„¢. The cassette sits neatly inside, or protrudes slightly from, your window jamb, with side channels running flush down the jamb sides, while the bottom rail sealing into the bottom channel when the blind is closedā€¦

Step 1. Install the cassette box

  • Handle with care ā€” donā€™t crease or remove the light-blocking film attached to both sides

  • Your window jamb should be at least 20mm deep

  • Fix the cassette box in place with the 32mm screws supplied

Step 2. Install the blind into the cassette

  • Insert the control end of the blind into the control bracket inside the cassette

  • For the idle end, hold down the end plug button and slide it into the bracket hole

  • Lock it by sliding the bracket pin downward

Step 3. Install the side channels

  • If using the chain-control option, press the lock point and slide the safety tensioner to the bottom of the chain first

  • Remove the paper band around the blind and lower it slightly to check it operates smoothly

  • Clip the top of each side channel into the slot on the cassette end cap

  • Use the supplied PVC card (bent into a U-shape) to push back the side channel felt to reveal screw holes behind the location labels, then fix the channels in place. Remove labels after securing

  • Insert the bottom channel between the side channels and fix with screws

Step 4. Fit the cassette cover

  • Hook the top edge of the cassette cover onto the cassette, then swing it downward until it locks in place

  • Note: For chain-control blinds, ensure the control chain isnā€™t pinched

Step 5. Install the safety tension device (chain control blinds only)

  • Fix the device holder into the pre-drilled hole on the side channel, with words ā€œTOPā€ facing up

  • Press the lock point and snap the tensioner into the holder

  • Make sure the chain sits taut after securing

Thatā€™s it ā€” your SmartBlockā„¢ blind is now installed. Thanks to the felt strips on the side channels and the sealed cassette design, even small frame variances are closed in, delivering total blackout performance
